When I woke up this morning I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. Yesterday was not the greatest day. I decided it was time for a little self care but what did that really mean. I didn’t feel like meditating or listing all the things I am grateful for ( although the list is long) nor did I feel like calling a friend to have a cathartic discussion on why I was feeling the way I do or even booking a massage.

What struck me was that sometimes I don’t listen to myself and appreciate exactly who I am. When you get to a “certain age” you have undoubtedly traveled many roads with friend and foe. I did decide I needed a pick me up and realized the most qualified person to provide that was me. So I decided to write myself a love letter.

We are usually our harshest critics and few know what is truly in our hearts. We can’t rely on others to make us feel valued and loved because that is something we must do on our own no matter our circumstances. It is only through self love that we can have the courage to own who we are, stand up for what we believe and absolve ourselves from the judgements or false stereotypes other put upon us. So here it is..................

Dear Susan,

You have traveled many paths in your years and have been ferocious in your independence and strong will. You have a beautiful heart that is kind and loving. You are a smart and an insightful soul but sometimes trust too easily. You have worn rose colored glasses in hopeless situations and sought connections with those unworthy but soldiered on.

You have shown forgiveness when it was agonizing but have pulled back when your adversary showed themselves again to be unworthy of your redemption. You have been a kind and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, stepmom, sister-in-law, niece, coworker, aunt and daughter in law. But most of all you have been YOU even when it was hard and you were maligned as well as judged. You have been a great example of strength and grit when some others would not still be standing. You have been knocked down so many times it’s hard to keep count but you refuse to stay down and get back up every time. You dare those to show you defeat and refute it time and time again. You have been a role model even for those who refuse to acknowledge your contributions to their lives.

What would I do without you. To know you is to love you and it had taken a lifetime to learn who you are, how you think, and what makes you tick...... I am grateful for who you are and all that you bring forth to others. Your thoughtful heart yet disciplined nature has brought you much success. Remember the joy you have brought to others with your tireless concern for their well being.

You have fallen and made many mistakes but that has made you who you are and always will. In fact, don’t change a thing. You are perfectly imperfect and no one else can DO YOU as beautifully as you have!!!

All my love always-

Me
