Life is Messy! Forgive Yourself & Move On

We have many chapters in life that evolve and our life enters different phases at different intervals we sometimes have no control over. Accepting life is messy and not handed up in a nice box with a pretty bow is part of understanding the rhythm of the twists and turns we all experience. A friend once told me I could have the white picket fence but you refuse to settle for being held hostage to what others think or the suffocating blanket of numbness.

I thought about that and she is right. I have been forever in search of “the happy” and along the road there has been a lot of messiness but when I felt most alone in this pursuit I realized I was really like most everyone else. Rarely do things turn out just the way we think they will and the kinks that come up provide a bend in the road, break us or provide a link to crossing a bridge we need to cross. The fact is sometime we just need a fresh start whether it be a career, relationship or the place we live.

Looking in my rear view mirror is full of missteps but also of really amazing moments. I don’t want my story to look like anyone else’s. In the end you have to be happy. The challenge for me has been to figure out what that looks like or what I want it to look like. Do we ever really have it totally figured out? Probably not! We only have today to act but all the while knowing we have no idea what tomorrow will bring.

Have you ever been at a great place and thought you had it all figured out and poof along came something, someone, a situation or otherwise that rocked your world....good or bad. All of a sudden you have to pull up on the reigns and recalibrate. I would catch myself asking myself is that the universe at work, a chain reaction from my actions or just a random ”something” that happened to challenge us to just let it evolve or just let it change us if it is meant to.

No over analyzing allowed here. Sometimes we have to just follow the breadcrumbs and see where it leads. Lately , there have been a lot of breadcrumbs that have popped up and I am following the path to see “what’s what”...If it changes me great, If it doesn’t no regrets.

Life IS messy. We only see clearly many times after the fact. When looking ahead we have to have conviction that if we find ourselves heading off course we will turn the bus around and go back but all the while knowing we can’t unsee what we saw up to that point. No matter what effect it has on us we have to believe on some level we were meant to see it or experience it whether we saw it coming or we just went with it because we were curious what might be off in the distance.

We only have one life with plenty of opportunities to make endless choices. Don’t waste them or throw them away out of fear. Peak around the corner, messy or not , the truth more than likely has been messy up to this point. It may not look like it on paper or to the outside world but in your head I bet there is a lot of messiness you keep to yourself. It’s part of the universal journey we are all on.
