Old Friends: When It Feels Like Time Has Stood Still

Recently I had a conversation with an old friend that reached out after many years and I was startled at how much it felt like no time had passed at all. We knew each other well many years ago during college but hadn’t seen each other since leaving the sacred grounds of the college I attended when we were so young and idealistic. As we talked I was surprised at what we both remembered about each other all those years ago but it felt great to talk and brought great memories flooding back.

As we exchanged information about what was going on in present time in each others’ lives it reminded me of some of the conversations we had back in the day but before so much of each of our lives’ canvases had been painted as they have now in our 50’s. It was uncanny how it felt like time had stood still even after so much time had passed. It felt great to hear some of what had happened in between the days on campus and life today in the middle of a pandemic. Our journeys have been different but yet still had a connection that was created at a very impressionable time in our lives.

Do you have that special friend or connection you had and always thought about but hadn’t kept up with them. If they reach out it feels so great to reconnect evoking those days of youth whenever you get back in touch. It takes you back like it did for me to a magically and impossibly happy fun time in my past that was so unexpected yet so welcome. Take time to reconnect with someone you had a meaningful connection with in the past and take a trip back to a different time when anything still seemed possible. So Cheers to old friends and keeping in touch once you reconnect!
