What Others Don’t See

As we move along day in and day out we’re faced with choices and decisions. Sometimes from the outside it looks easy. We put on a happy face, we put one foot in front of the other and we check all the boxes were supposed to just like we are told.

However, behind the façade, many times we are struggling to understand why we are doing what we are doing. Not only that, we take each day as a another hurdle to cross or think of it as a grind to be endured instead of enjoying the intricacies and rhythm of our daily living.

Just recently a friend I knew a long time ago passed away who was my age. It made me saddened at their passing but it also made me question how I take for granted the little things I don't appreciate as I should. We talk about gratitude and certainly there's many things in my life to be grateful for and I am. But do I really stop and smell the roses like I should?? The answer is no because I'm too caught up in the anxiety, ecstasy, or drama of navigating daily trials and tribulations that cloud my ability to be in the moment. So when does the madness stop and the clarity begin? I guess that depends on each one of us. Nobody can clear the fog off the the window for us. It's a job we each have to take on every day if you want to see things the way they really are. It's so easy to sugarcoat situations and sweep conflict under the rug. But every time we do that we lose a piece of our selves and deny our own truth.

The harder question is why do we continue to do it when we know deep down it doesn't serve our best self. The answer lies within each of us if we desire to find it. If we search and find something we don't like our tendency is to ignore it. But then what? Dive deep, search hard, every day counts, this isn't a dress rehearsal, we can't change the past, and accept the mistakes that have been made along the way.

Own your story and remember we don't have forever or endless chapters to write in our own book. At some point the story will end whether we like it or not and the journey will be over. What's left to tell after we are finished with this thing called life is on us. We can design our lives as we want but not with our head buried in the sand. Time to figure it out and edit the next steps to reflect what we've learned, what we've been through, and what we want to be remembered for after we're gone. Time may yet not be up but the fact is we never know when it will be.
